Cross-Flow Fan Wheels: Why Glass-Reinforced PP Rather Than PP-TD

Rotating parts need creep resistance and dynamic balance — mineral-filled PP cannot deliver, glass fibre is mandatory.

What rotation demands

Cross-flow fan wheels run at high continuous speed with sustained centrifugal load and slight vibration, usually in warm humid air. That calls for long-term creep resistance, low water uptake and dimensional stability.

Mineral-filled PP has adequate stiffness but poor creep resistance: blade angles drift slowly during service, destroying dynamic balance and raising noise.

How PP-GF performs

PP with 20-30% short glass fibre reaches 3,000-4,500 MPa flexural modulus and far better creep resistance than mineral-filled systems, while keeping PP's low density and low water absorption.

It is normally paired with rotor balancing practice: uniform fibre dispersion first to reduce inertia variation, then balance correction after assembly.

Why not PA-GF

PA6-GF30 is stronger and more heat resistant, but absorbs around 3% water, changing dimensions and stiffness — a risk in humid rotating parts.

That is why low-absorption reinforced PP dominates in appliance fan wheels.
