1. Enquiry and technical clarification of duty and property targets. 2. Grade proposal and first plaques. 3. Small-batch trial parts. 4. Rig and durability validation. 5. PPAP or part approval with process freeze. 6. Production supply with annual review.
Step 1 is the most underestimated. Clarifying the duty cycle — temperature, media, load, life, certification — removes two or three later rework loops.
Technical stage: data sheets, SDS, RoHS and REACH declarations, recommended processing conditions.
Approval stage: full type test reports, lot consistency data, IMDS submission. Production stage: per-lot COA and traceability records.
The most common is incomplete flame and safety certification: a UL yellow card whose thickness tiers do not match OEM requirements, or missing glow-wire data.
Colour is the other classic: ΔE between sample and production exceeding limits, requiring several re-sampling rounds. Lock physical panels early and agree tolerances.
