PP-TD20 Pricing and Data Sheets: What to Include in an Enquiry

How the price is built

PP-TD20 sits in the affordable bracket of compounds, with main costs from PP resin, talc and the additive package. Against neat PP resin the compounded tonne price typically runs 15-35% higher, depending on talc mesh, whether a toughener is co-added and whether a weathering package is required.

Weathering and flame retardance are the two big cost drivers: a UV package usually adds 5-10%, while V-0 flame retardance can add over 30%.

Eight things every enquiry should carry

1. Part name and where it fits. 2. Thinnest wall section. 3. Processing method (usually injection) and mould temperature conditions. 4. Service temperature range. 5. Drop or impact requirements. 6. Whether it is used outdoors, deciding weathering. 7. Flame rating and certification needs. 8. Colour — Pantone or physical sample — and appearance class.

Missing any of these forces the supplier to quote on assumptions. Service temperature and wall thickness are the ones most often omitted, and they are also the ones most likely to decide success.

How to read a data sheet

Check the test standard first: for the same flexural modulus, ISO 178 and ASTM D790 use different specimen sizes and spans, so figures cannot be compared directly.

Then the conditions: room temperature versus -30 °C differ enormously, and dry-as-moulded versus conditioned matters greatly for PA. Finally distinguish typical values from guaranteed ones — typical values are indicative only; acceptance should rest on agreed guaranteed values or limit samples.
